Decision Making, most common dilemma faced by my clients.
Seriously, if you understand how this works, your life is way easier
Stop treating every decision making like a “life or death” situation! Stop letting fear drives your thoughts! Overwhelmed by the process, it’s safer and easier when no decision is made. Sounds familiar?
However, is it true that no decision is made? NO!!! Every time you take no action, you’ve just made a decision: in fact, it’s worse than saying no, as it’s an act of escaping from problem and wondering why nothing in your life has changed. It’s shrieking of ownership of problem by ignoring altogether.
Ladies, it’s YES or NO, that’s all. Anything in between (indecision) acts as additional baggage that you carry on in life, one that you do not realize and yet it gets heavier and heavier….
There are tons of decision-making tips out there. Here, I’d like to share one of my favorite with you.
Write this down on paper (the power of seeing it in your own words allow you to face things as it is):
1. WORST CASE SCENARIO: What’s the worst that can happen when you take up this opportunity (or whatever that’s relevant in the scenario)?
Eg: You lost X amount of $
2. BEST CASE SCENARIO: What’s the best case that can happen?
Eg: You live your dream life, 1 year, 5 and 10 years from now, with no regrets. Your mission and purpose is fulfilled.
3. MOST LIKELY CASE SCENARIO: What’s most likely to happen?
Eg: You regained your long-lost confidence and self-esteem, your life gets happier each day, your business grows while you continue to work closer to your ultimate dream life
Now that you’ve listed possible scenarios, it prepares you for the worst so that you don’t get a shock and play the victim/blaming game if this scenario happens. Most importantly, with the glimpse of potential future (best case and most likely case scenario), it gives you the overview and gut-feel on whether it’s worth moving forward.
Remember this, when no action is taken to improve your life, it is likely that the existing situation gets worse instead of staying the same.
For me, I treat life as a journey filled with wonders. I’d rather take a shot than die without trying.
What’s your choice?
